From The Albany Metroland, April 24, 2013: "Trumpeter Nicholas Payton’s solo on this one left me thinking that he is truly fearless. He can rip fast lines, but he can also hang on a note and sink it in to a texture. Rather than default to quick lines or stored licks, he takes his time ... ." ~Jeff Nania

And Bitches keeps making waves: London Jazz News says Nicholas Payton's album Bitches, recently released on vinyl,  is reminisce of "prime late period Quincy Jones — Body Heat, say — and even Prince"(!); and with only 999 individually numbered copies available worldwide, "you should get your skates on and find a copy".

On April 10, at the David H Koch Theatre (formerly NY State Theatre) in front of 2500 audience members, Nicholas Payton played his original compositions for the NY Premiere of Complexions Dance Theatre's Ballet entitled: CHARTER. The special commissioned work had it's World Premiere at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans.
